Uniform

The wearing of school uniform is a key significant feature of our academy and our uniform code is strongly enforced. School uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of a school and setting an appropriate tone.

At Oriel Academy we believe that school uniform is important for the following reasons:

·    It helps to foster a sense of belonging to the school community.
·    It enables a child not only to identify with, but also to be seen as a member of the school.
·    It helps children to understand that school is important and should be taken seriously.
·    It helps children to behave well.
·    It assures both parent and teacher that the child is wearing clothes that are smart and sensible, and helps
remove the   potential problems that fashion and competition could bring about.

In accepting a place at Oriel Academy parents and pupils agree to support this aspect of our school philosophy.  We ask all parents and pupils to sign our Home School Agreement which emphasises this aspect of the school’s expectations.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families strongly encourages all schools to have a uniform as it can instill pride, support positive behaviour and discipline, encourage identity with, and support for, school ethos, ensure pupils of all races and backgrounds feel welcome; protect children from social pressures to dress in a particular way, nurture cohesion and promote good relations between different groups of pupils. Above all, many schools believe that school uniform supports effective teaching and learning.
